Thank You!

I'm making a thank you card for this person. I drafted it today, but I probably should send a copy to my email soon...

Search Engine

Thanks to this article

I was able to figure out a potential reason for weird tabs opening up and doing random searches.

I deleted all the extraneous search engines, and hopefully, the problem has resolved itself. The behavior was so weird, that I thought my browser got hacked...again. In fact, although I don't know for certain the true cause, with all the phishing and the spyware floating around on the net, it's easy to just assume that unwanted behaviors are attacks. However, that may not really be the case! Discoveries are exciting...if not somewhat dangerous.

Memory's Fault

So, lately something weird has been happening....That is when I reduce the amount of memory in my computer systems, at last my two notebooks, I've been experiencing better performance. I'm not sure what's going on, but it is interesting, and I'll have to research into it a bit more.

Dreams

I remembered clearly, but by now, my dream has evaporated. It wasn't unpleasant, but a thing that can be unpleasant is waking up with a lot of thoughts. New ideas, or tasks that I'm supposed to do....just a multitude of things. So I am going to collect all of my thoughts here.

I don't feel too bad today. My body wasn't sore, except for my hands. The sun is out. I think it will be a fairly good day.

Yesterday, I didn't meet my step target. So today, I will try and hit my goal. There are a lot of other things that I've got to do too.

  • Talk to Vicki Langford about summer school
  • Call Nutri-meds about my thyroid
    • although, I did find a supply a lot cheaper on Amazon...we'll see
    • not cool. my ticket wasn't private/confidential
  • Write the rest of my Rape in the Congo paper (Only 75 more words!) It's not difficult, but I feel like keeping the paper small will be hard.
Okay I think these are the top three things that are bothering me. If I get them done today

Curry for two

1/2 package of roux
2 cup of water

Bad Dream

I dreamt about a lot of things. I was at a convention, where everyone was naked but me...awkward. I forgot to mention it was a room full of fat people. This one woman lost 600 lbs.

I was at a mall or something trying to give away old cooking utensils to this Applebee's hostess. I ran into someone at the same mall and she offered to give me a ride. I took it, but she's messy. Not only her van, but her habits too. She would throw garbage out of her car. I was visiting my parents, all the trees were gone. Everyone lived in these small tall houses, like town houses, lined up and down on a hill. The lighting was eerie, like dawn.

Miu came to me purring. I wonder if she new something was wrong.

I woke up with the urge to figure out which one is better soldering wires to connect, or twisting them together. I would like some shrink tubes...tubes.

I'm going to try to sleep more. I'm glad Miu is here. Oddly enough I didn't dream about mycoses and faceless people. But I never really dream about that sort of stuff.

Missed Test!

Oh no! I missed the bus...by less than a minute...I watched it drive up, and drive by me. All is not lost though. If I do really well, it's still possible to get an A...barely! But I have to be on top of my game. On a happier note, I got a chance to see Chibi molt because of the missed test. That cheered me up a lot!

Bios Update!

So I went to the Gateway website to look up the downloads for my laptop, and there was a BIOS update. I was like, "What the hell...Kintarou is practically unusable the way he is. What have I got to lose."

Coincidentally, I was in the old bios, (that's how I knew there was a new upgrade), and I was looking at the memory setting. Video = 8MB. I'm not writing this down incorrectly. It really did have a nice singular 8 next to it. When I did the update, the OS went missing (Oh NO!...not) and I got a funky fan error, but the memory for video shot up to 224.

So I'm going to try setting up Win 7 for the third time in not even a 24 hr span, and see if that made a difference. So far..I'm stuck in "Starting Windows." If it installs in less than two hours, that's a considerable time gain.

Pre-test study!

Tonight I've got a test for Linear Algebra. I hope I do well on it. The whole thing actually gets easier as we start talking about vectors, but until then, there are some trick matrix stuff that I need to remember.

There's a quiz 5 question that goes something like this...
Suppose J_3 is derived from switching the rows of I_3. If J_3A = [some matrix], which of the following could be A?

I never understood this to begin with, but I am inclined to use the IA = A definition...which works out well if the matrix is square, but I feel like it could get tricky. For now, I will follow the key words rows/columns and look for those manipulations.

The next error I had was a matter of sign...unless the number was a coincidence!

I'm glad quiz 4 didn't really require any effort...I still have three more quizzes to review.

After reviewing some previous quiz 5 practice, I can see that there does seem to be the pattern I was seeing earlier.

Okay! On to quiz 6

Gha! This is just getting tedious! I'm going to take a shower and do a bit more review later.

Vital Signs

I've been slacking off on these points quite a bit...I should get some new data! I wish that sort of data collection was easier, like with my activity monitor! It's really interesting not only to see how active, but when! I'd like to do a large study using college students to see what kind of activity patterns are "typical."

5.6 GB FTW7?

Last night I tried installing Win7 on 5.6 GB of space. (There was 17.0 MB left afterwards.) It's doable. The results...slow! Some people might say "DUH." But I wanted to see if Win7 would run at all. (There was a curious message and all...) And Win7 does run...

However, I don't really know if it's really the disk space that's slowing the whole thing down, or if it's the computer itself. I remember having problems with the way this particular PC was operating even before the install...There's something that's slowing it down, but I have no idea what it could be at this point.

So I'm going to do the reinstall, but this time, I'll use the recommended minimum, 16 GB. If I like it, I'll keep Win7 installed, but if I don't, I'll try something different! I am hoping this will fix the issues I was having to begin with...or at least help me diagnose it better.

Walk w/ Me!

Well, I've tried doing the step thing with the DS activity meter. It's quite fun, but I think that I've got to set some goals for myself. I was looking at a site and I want to become an active person...which is about 10000 steps a day. I can barely make 3000, and I feel like it was a mistake to switch my daily goal to 4000. I want to be able to reach my target for a week straight. After that, I will re-raise my goals. Today I still have to try and make 4000 steps. I'm going to try my best today! I wonder how long it will take to reach my goals! It's fun to find out.

The interesting thing about the activity meter is that it syncs the steps with the time of day the steps were taken. It takes me a long time to walk from class to class! (At least 10 minutes if not a bit more.)

Anyways, today I've got a busy shopping day, so lets see if I can't reach my goal today!
