METHOD – 25 points possible

Center at top of page the word “Method”

Left justified italicize the word “Participants”
Describe participants – who, how many, how selected, demographic characteristics if appropriate

  • people who use Williams Hall; RM 120, and the rooms directly above up to the third floor.

Left justified italicize the word “Materials”
Describe materials – apparatus, measures, etc.

  • pen, paper, watch, stick/tongs, computer, camera

Left justified italicize the word “Design and Procedure”
Describe procedure – how will the data be collected

  • I will inspect the recycling bins to and the trash cans to check:
    • to see if the correct items were properly placed
    • the amount of misplaced items (trash in recycling and vice versa)
    • the types of recycling (bottles vs. cans vs. plastic)
  • These inspections will be held between the three rooms to determine if there is a discrepancy between on or all rooms. (My initial observations were based on one room, which may just lend itself to being a "problem" room.)
  • Inspections will be held during different times of the day, for two weeks straight.
    • I plan on limiting my sampling to business hours.
    • Each sample instance consists of all three rooms.
    • Only three samples will be taken on any given day.
    • Efforts will be made to observe the trash/recycling when no one is around.
      • Ideally, I can just collect the bags for analysis later on.
      • If it's not possible to observe w/o the presence of others, a camera can be used to take a snapshot for a "best estimate." (Perhaps this is ideal too.)
  • Once the data is collected, it will be entered into as spreadsheet

Describe how participants will move through the study (e.g., participants will review the informed consent page, they will fill out measure X, Y, & Z…)

  • Participants are "passive" players in this study, as such, I expect them to move naturally w/o the awareness of my presence.

May want to include the factorial design if experiment (e.g., 2 X 3)

  • I have no idea what this is.

Keep in mind that the method should provide enough detail for other researchers to replicate the study
Also include how you plan to analyze your data (e.g., ANOVA, t-tests, etc.)

Exploratory data analysis will be used to help me develop my hypothesis further.
